"The study is the first to document the extent of the relationships between doctors and sales reps since 2002 when a leading industry group adopted voluntary guidelines discouraging companies from giving doctors gifts or tickets. In general, researchers found hardly anything had changed since previous studies a couple years earlier."
All told, the report from the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that the number of doctors receiving some form of 'gift' was 94%.

CMS Speaks: Will Use 3 Decimal CPI-U Values in Near Future
We reached out to CMS early in March of 2007 regarding the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) changing of the CPI-U Values to 3 decimal places. On April 19, 2007, CMS replied to our query via e-mail, stating that its technical staff was working changing their systems to accommodate 3 decimal places and hoped to have it implemented by July of 2007. In the interim, CMS will be using rounded values.
While 3 decimals might promote greater accuracy in numbers, statistics, and calculations from BLS’s perspective, it certainly poses unique challenges for both manufacturers and the State Medicaid Programs. Certain GP systems do not automatically allow for CPI-U Values of 3 decimals, while others can be made to handle these numbers.
To that end, CMS should advise manufacturers and the States of their intentions formally and give manufacturers a reasonable amount of time to implement the change. CMS should understand that such a change is anything but simple—it’s not like flipping a light switch.
Ideally, manufacturers should have at least 90 days (or one quarter) to implement the change, once CMS announces officially that there will be a change. Manufacturers using systems that require tweaking will need at least that much time.
Will you need to tweak your GP systems? And if so, how much time do you think CMS should allow? What type of guidance would you like to see from CMS?

WELCOME TO THE PHARMA COMPLIANCE BLOG!
Welcome Colleagues & Fellow Bloggers!
Since we at Compliance Implementation Services, LLC (CIS), launched the Pharma Compliance Exchange (PCX), clients and prospective clients have used words like ‘revolutionary,’ ‘Godsend,’ ‘priceless’ and ‘perfect’ to describe it. Through the PCX, GP and Compliance communities have greater and more convenient access to the information and answers they need the most.
In keeping with our commitment to provide unique and innovative consulting products and services, we began exploring ways in which we could offer clients an anonymous forum to discuss their GP and Compliance issues with their industry counterparts. We soon realized the need for a dynamic ‘information exchange’ between the members of these groups.
